Welcome to Episode 11 of The Yoga Den Podcast.
If I were to ask you what connects yoga and science, many of you would probably say, “nothing”. Science is about logic, yoga? It's all philosophy and woo-woo right?
Yeah, a common theme and probably something that I would have thought a while back. Well, this week's guest holds a master's in science and wrote her thesis around bringing science into yoga. She's also a yoga teacher. science writer and former aerospace engineer.
Laura Dobberstein fell in love with yoga from her very first class. And following her 200-hour yoga teacher training, managed to fight through her limiting beliefs, and ended up teaching yoga in studios across the US, London, and now Singapore.
Laura has a regular schedule of classes and has built up a cohort of loyal students that have stuck with her through the ups and downs of 2020.
For someone without a science background, I was definitely a liberal arts guy, I learned a lot from this conversation, a conversation that spans topics such as:
- why aerospace engineers are not actually scientists;
- why the best cure for impostor syndrome is to just do it anyway;
- why the image of yoga needs to change if we're going to encourage more people to come to the practice; and
- how the quest for truth provides the link between science and yoga.
